Our relationship with James at FRA spans to almost a decade. We are proud to have been one of their earliest customers and value the long-standing partnership we’ve built with them.

Challenges/Problems Necessitating FRA Projects

In the 1970s, and 80s, my father took proactive measures to enhance the farm’s drainage through government grant schemes. However, as these systems began to fail due to age and evolving weather patterns, it became clear that we needed a modern and comprehensive water management solution.

The impact of drainage issues on our fields was evident with compromised yields, deteriorating soil structure, and diminished crop quality. These challenges underscored the urgent need for intervention.

What We Were Looking for in FRA Projects' Solution

Initially, we sought field-by-field surveys, effective drainage designs, and practical implementation. Over time, as challenges grew more complex, we expanded our scope with FRA.

We commissioned a full-farm survey to understand flow paths across our land. FRA provided invaluable data that helped prioritise drainage outlets and design water storage areas in our less productive land. These efforts not only improved the performance of our productive fields but also enhanced environmental outcomes.

By incorporating water storage areas, we now manage excess water on the farm, replenishing local aquifers and aiding the over-abstracted chalk stream in our area. These projects have balanced productivity with sustainability, ensuring our farm is prepared for the future.
